What is Life Coaching?
Updated: 1 day ago
Life coaching is motivating clients by helping and supporting them to overcome challenges that are preventing them from reaching their highest potential. A Life coach can help their clients to achieve their goals, rebuild their self-esteem/confidence and help them to make decisions on specific subjects so they can remove barriers that prevent them from reaching their targets and aims.
Life coaching requires listening to clients carefully, observing their situation (strength, weakness, progress and objectives) and taking a good picture of their current situation that prevents them achieve what they want and where they want to be. After identifying the obstacle, the life coach focuses on the client’s present situation and work with them to achieve what they want to succeed. The Client’s condition can be personal, family, social, professional or financial. For example; losing weight, saving money for buying a car, being able to socialise and make a connection to prevent loneliness.
Life Coaching is more about helping the client to develop their skills and change their attitudes which will help them to manage their life and achieve what they want. The life coach also helps clients to discover their potential and what they can accomplish when they take the right course of action.
How can a Life Coach help?
A life coach initially assesses the client’s situation, identify their obstacles and start to work with the client on how to overcome these obstacles. A life coach can help a client as follows:
Focus and Motivation
A life coach can help a client to focus on or improve their motivation so they are able to reach their goals. Especially the client who has a lack of motivation and is unable to focus on what they want or unable to make decisions can benefit from life coaching. Following examples can be given for lack of motivation; if a student is not able to concentrate on their study or unable to gain good result from their education, an employee who is not able to focus on their work and keep failing to finish tasks required, or a business owner has a lack of motivation to drive their business to success or a partner who is not able to fulfil their responsibilities in their relationship, which might cause issues in the family. All these clients can gain benefit from life coaching services and increase their focus as well as motivation for a better life.
A life coach can help clients who might need support and advice on relationships such as marriage or partnership as well as improving relations with their parents or parents with their children, work colleagues, employers etc.
Self-Esteem and Confidence
A life coach also can help the client to develop or rebuild self-esteem and confidence. Especially if a client has had a bad experience or negative feelings about a situation. For instance, if a client newly broke up with his/her partner or divorced, a student is unable to complete their course and leaving without completing, an employee having issues with work manager/owner and leaving job etc. These clients might have a lack of confidence to overcome their obstacle and/or start up a new one.
Development of Physical Wellbeing
A life coach can also help a client to build up a healthier lifestyle if they are not happy with their current physical wellbeing such as being over-weighted, lack of physical activities, or newly recovering from illness etc.
Public and Professional Image
A Life coach can also help clients who need to build up confidence in public. These clients can be politicians, local councillors, representatives of governmental and non-governmental organisations such as charities, churches etc. Life coaches can also help representatives of private businesses, companies and self-employed business persons who want to build up a public image for their professions.
Personal Finance or Business
A life coach can also help clients if they're going to make personal and/or business financial decisions. A life coach has to be very careful when giving advice and should know the responsibilities of his/her action and do not step into trouble such as providing financial advice rather than helping a client to make the right decisions.
A Life coach can also help their clients to make the right decision when choosing a career or changing their job if they are not happy with their current one. It is essential to clarify that a life coach cannot decide on behalf of a client, but they can help a client to make right and beneficial decisions.
